What is a sharps container?
We will provide you with a sharps container while you are in the study.  A sharps container is container for used medical needles to be placed in to prevent harm to the user or anyone else. When full, the sharps container is then disposed of in a safe manner that coincides with state, city, or town guidelines.

What do I do with used syringes?
NEVER clip, bend, or attempt to recap the needle. Place the syringe immediately into the sharps container after use. Keep the syringe and sharps container away from children and pets.

How do I dispose of my full sharps container in Massachusetts?
In Massachusetts, sharps containers CANNOT be placed in household trash. Each community has a disposal site which can be found at: www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/environmental/sanitation/medical-waste/needles-syringes-disposal.pdf
For more information on sharps safety and disposal in Massachusetts, please visit the website above.
